Project Spotlight: gabriellabraun.co.uk
What better way to finish the year than with a little write-up of my latest website project? I’m so happy to be able to share this with you - one of the few websites I’ve created for non-fiction authors - in this case Gabriella Braun. It was really fascinating getting to learn about Gabriella’s upcoming book and find out more about her interesting career, too.
Now, onto the project…
The Brief
It was really fun to work with Gabriella as she had very clear ideas about what she wanted from her website. Her book, All That We Are, is narrative non-fiction (one of my favourite genres) so we had to straddle both the storytelling and academic world with the design, and reflect Gabriella’s expertise in the area, while still drawing people in and making sure the book feels accessible.
Gabriella was sure from the start that she wanted to use a rich chocolate brown as a background colour, but was also keen to bring in splashes of sunny yellow and bright orange too, to stop the site from seeming too staid.
She was also keen to incorporate the book’s cover image somehow, so we took a strip of the image and used it as a background for the footer.
Fonts-wise, we kept things clean and contemporary, using one of the fonts from Gabriella’s cover to bring a sense of cohesion and harmony to this very smart, warm and inviting site.

Gabriella’s Verdict
The Post-launch Q&A
Before working with Charlotte Duckworth Studio, when it came to my website I felt:
Overwhelmed and incompetent.
What fears or hesitations did you have before deciding to work with Charlotte Duckworth Studio?
That I couldn't manage to do it on my own.
How do you expect your new site to change things for you?
It would be custom built and easy for me to change content etc..
For someone on the fence about working with Charlotte Duckworth Studio, what would you say to them?
Charlotte is super organised and thoughtful about the whole process. From the pre-design questionnaires and tips about content, to the process itself and the support afterwards, she makes the whole thing stress free and enjoyable. She is incredibly easy to work with, listens to what you want and finds solutions to accommodate you. She'll give advice if needed/asked for but is never prescriptive.
How do you feel about your completed website?
I love it! It exceeded my expectations. And it's super easy to edit/manage - easier than I'd imagined.
Is there anything you feel could have been done to improve your experience?
Can't think of anything.
Would you recommend Charlotte Duckworth Studio to a friend who also needed to build an author website?
Definitely!
