3 author websites I built in a day

author website built in a day

I don’t get to share my Author Website in a Day projects very much, and yet since I launched the service they have proved really popular - with both me and clients alike! So I thought today I would share with you three author website designs that I built in just one day.

Thanks to Squarespace’s newest iteration of its website editor, Fluid Engine, it’s easier and quicker than ever to build a simple author website in a single day.

These projects were all completed over the course of 6-8 hours.

Some have been updated since their initial launch, but they were all launched and ready for public viewing at the end of their Author Website in a Day day!

Jacquie Bloese’s Author Website

Jacquie had the most beautiful cover for her debut novel, The French House, which went on to be selected as a Richard & Judy pick.

Jacquie was adamant she didn’t want any insipid pastels on her site, so we kept her design smart and simple, taking inspiration from her fresh covers, with nothing too fussy but still ensuring the design was in keeping with her genre, historical.

Lucy Weldon’s Author Website

Lucy is a successful short-story writer who has been long and short-listed in many writing competitions. She initially wanted a basic website to showcase her writing.

I first built Lucy a website with just four pages, but she came back to me a few months later with some exciting news - her debut short-story collection, Ultramarine, was being published!

She booked in with me for some extra hours and we worked together to set up an online bookshop so that readers could buy signed copies of her books directly from her site, as well as adding more pages and functionality - such as downloadable media & press kits, as well as resources for book clubs.

Michael J Chaplin’s Author Website

Michael Chaplin’s debut novel, A Fallen God, is due to be released in 2024. He wanted a simple, clean website to showcase the novel and provide information to the media. As he doesn’t use social media, the website is also where news about the book will be posted.

The cover for Michael’s novel is very striking, so we kept the website design pared-back in order not to compete with it.

We also included artwork by Michael’s wife, Patricia Betaudier Chaplin (whose website I also built 😉) to add interest to the design.

Want to get your author website done and dusted in one day?

I hope the above sites give you an example of exactly what can be achieved during my Author Website in a Day package!

As you can see, they are all very different in tone and style but all feature the key functionality that an effective author website must have.

This package is ideal for writers who just want to get a simple website up and running as soon as possible, with minimal fuss or stress, knowing that it will cover ALL the essential elements that a good author website needs.

You won’t get any fancy functionality or bespoke coding, but you WILL get a website that works well and looks good.

Most importantly of all, it gives you the flexibility to add to your author website at any time in the future, either by updating it yourself or by booking in some extra time with me, making it ideal for debut novelists who want a site that can grow as their career grows.

I absolutely love building author websites in just one day!

It’s super fun and satisfying and often a big relief to my clients too, as it ticks it off their to-do list easily and with the least amount of work on their part.
